Endoscopy Procedure Coordinator
Job Description
Summary:
The Endoscopy Procedural Coordinator will coordinate for the scheduling of endoscopy proceduralists for YRMC endoscopy areas including Outpatient Endoscopy (Avenue B and YRMC Main Outpatient) as well as Inpatient Gastroenterology Hospitalist. The Endoscopy Coordinator collaborates with internal and external customers/agencies to secure provider resources on an as-needed basis to address procedural volumes. As a nurse, the Endoscopy Procedural Coordinator will utilize nursing skills and knowledge to coordinate with external resources to overcome social barriers prohibiting patients from receiving needed endoscopic procedures as well as performs patient education associated with pre-procedural prep instructions.
Responsibilities:
Collaborates with internal and external customers/staffing agencies to secure provider resources on an as-needed basis to address procedural volumes in all endoscopy areas. Maintains proceduralist schedule several months in advance.
Collaborates with Clinic and Endoscopy Center leaders to overcome barriers identified in endoscopy navigation process.
Assists patients to overcome barriers such as finance and transportation required for managing appointment for endoscopy procedure(s), answering questions and liaising with providers to address questions or concerns.
Plans for the provision of patient pre-procedural education and communications to facilitate patients’ understanding and adherence to pre-procedure instructions.
Reviews patient records pre-procedure to ensure patients are appropriately optimized for endoscopic procedure so as to minimize procedure cancellations and inconveniences to the patient.
Partners with medical providers, endoscopy center and/or anesthesiologist as warranted to address patients’ barriers to receiving endoscopic procedure(s) and facilitates plan to ensure care received.
Serve as a liaison between patients, families, and healthcare providers.
Minimum Expereince Required:
- 1+ years nursing experience.
Education/Certifications:
- Current LPN Arizona nursing license in good standing.
- Knowledge and experience in surgical nursing or endoscopy area a plus.
Skill: Predominately administrative nursing role with strong focus on patient advocacy, care coordination, patient education and procedural scheduling. Knowledge of numerous software programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel, keyboarding skills and navigating within electronic health record routinely performed. Possesses strong organization and communication skills.
Ability: Multitask, manage numerous phone lines in a profession and courteous manner; is detail oriented, enjoys working with patients and a problem-solver. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Experience: Case management and/or care coordination; patient education; scheduling; patient advocacy

Preferred Requirements/Skill Sets:
- Education: RN or LPN licensure
- Skill: Knowledge of OR or surgery scheduling.
- Ability: to work independently when provided goal/task; problem-solve scheduling challenges independently or with minimal support.
- Experience: With electronic health record, care coordination/case management experience; OR Endoscopy experience
- Behaviors: Service oriented, patient focused
Work Schedule: 8-hours, Days, Monday through Friday
