Position Summary

Under the direction of Surgical Services Leadership, an OR Support Technician will work in a supportive role in the department to assist the team with quality patient care.The OR Support Technician will assist with the coordination of surgery scheduling, case preparation, intraoperative support to the surgical team, and overall preparation of the department for next day’s surgeries.

Primary Accountability

1. Schedule/book add-on surgical procedures and correspond with appropriate staff and physicians regarding booking of case

a.Relay specific information to staff and physicians such as type of procedure, patient location, leveling of surgery, and other pertinent data

2.Assist with operating room set up for procedures to include but not limited to:

a.Pulling surgeon’s preference card with supplies and instrumentation

b.Bringing in necessary equipment for surgery

c.Setting up appropriate bed and positioning devices

d.Opening up supplies and instruments using sterile technique

3.Assist OR nurse with bringing patient to operating room, positioning, and any additional patient care needs under the circulator’s direction and within scope of practice.

4.After the case is initiated, assist team with requests for additional supplies and equipment, correspond with laboratory for need of blood products or specimen inquiries, and transport specimens to pathology when needed

5.Assist with the following at the conclusion of case:

a.Transporting patient to next phase of care

b.Turnover operating room per policy guidelines

6.Collaborate with Central Supply department to ensure department is stocked with all necessary supplies

7.Collaborate with Sterilization to ensure department has all necessary instrumentation for current and the next day’s cases

8.Daily documentation of the following:

a.Room temperatures and humidity

b.Blanket and fluid warmers temperatures

c.Tissue freezer temperature

d.Medication freezer and refrigerator temperatures

e.Eye wash station testing (weekly)

9.Return all excess supplies, instruments, and equipment to appropriate areas

10.Ensure all case carts for next day’s surgeries are accounted for, and that all supplies and instruments that are required are present

11.Damp dust each operating room before setting up for first cases of the day

12.Other duties as assigned

Education/ Experience Required and Preferred

  • Required:
  • High School Diploma/GED

    Basic Life Support (BLS)

  • Preferred:
  • 2 years experience working in a perioperative services department

    CNA/LNA license - Arizona


 

Work Schedule: 10-hours, Nights, Varied
