The Lab Courier/Phlebotomist is responsible for the accurate, timely, and proper delivery and/or pick-up on of patient samples, supplies, and reports on behalf of Yuma Regional Medical Center to and from designated locations; Draws blood laboratory tests and collects blood from finger sticks or with a needle from veins which include; Uses collection materials including needles, gauze, vials, alcohol and tourniquets; Verifies patient information, labels specimen vials, and submitting specimens for further processing or testing.
Presents to the client in a courteous and professional manner; Verifies that specimen is correctly labeled and requisition is valid; Maintains specimen integrity during specimen transport; Delivers supplies, communications and reports to clients; Performs STAT and Routine pick-ups as dispatched; Picks up and delivers blood products to airport in a timely manner; Delivers blood products to the airport in accordance with FAA standards; Maintains an accident free and citation free driving record.
Maintains, inspects and operates assigned vehicles; Completes daily vehicle inspections; Identifies mechanical issues and notifies supervisor immediately; Maintains vehicle; Identifies, initiates and coordinates preventative maintenance (every 6 months or 3,000 miles).
Effectively uses Electronic Health Record and Laboratory Information System; Performs Specimen Registrations; Selects appropriate billing indicator when billing a client; Orders all necessary tests in YRMC Care; Uses correct functions to receive, track, modify and lookup up information within Sunquest; Continues to provide quality patient care during computer downtimes.
Performs venous collection, DNA/paternity collection and finger sticks for to obtain specimens in accordance with CAP and Infection Control Guidelines using Aseptic Technique, Proper Labeling, and Proper specimen collection.
Performs infant heel sticks for blood collection in accordance with CAP and Infection Control Guidelines using Aseptic Technique and proper supplies; Ensures that the card is properly labeled and filled out; Chooses appropriate site for heel stick; Properly applies blood to the card, fills circles; Bandages heel stick site; Properly instructs infant's guardian on removal of bandage.
Conducts Specimen Processing for sample testing; Operates the centrifuge properly and safely to process specimens; Prepares and distributes samples for testing at the appropriate facility; Appropriately handles all potentially infectious materials; Knows and understands the Laboratory Pre-Analytic Policy
