Summary:
The Hematology/Coagulation Manager provides leadership to the Hematology/Coagulation team comprised Medical Technologists (MT), Medical Laboratory Technicians (MLT), and Technical Assistants; Collaborates with the director to direct the Hematology/Coagulation team to meet the needs of patients, physicians, and staff by ensuring excellence in all aspects of laboratory operations; Directs the section's human resources and employee relations to ensures appropriate staffing and productivity levels, develops/monitors performance and productivity improvement, training, safety, quality and regulatory standards; Ensures excellence in customer service and achievement of budgetary goals; manages continuous improvement of section's processes and functions; Provides input into the fiscal management of the section, including forecasting and monitoring of operating performance; Identifies and implements strategies to reduce costs and improve quality of service. Aadheresto state and federal rules and regulations; ensures compliance with CAP, federal, state and local agencies; Performs clinical and related duties as required. Reports to Admin Director, Laboratory.

Responsibilities:
Medical Technologist: Works as a Medical Technologist following standard operating procedures. Performs quantitative, qualitative and subjective lab procedures by manual and automated methods in accordance with the instructions in the technical procedures manuals; Performs limited complex testing as evidenced by audit and documentation; Performs lab procedures in an accurate and efficient manner following current technical procedure, verifies results according to the department protocol as evidenced by audit. Learns and adapts to new policies, procedures and methodologies in a timely manner; Recognizes problems and assists in seeking solutions; refers major problems to the technical specialist; Maintains adequate levels of supplies and reagents; notified appropriate person to reorder as required. Practices cost-containment by eliminating careless mistakes and unnecessary repeats; Demonstrates teamwork, initiative flexibility in covering other shifts/areas as needed; Supports laboratory safety compliance objectives.

Operational Management
Competency: Exhibits a commitment to operational management and completing tasks through personal initiative, and persistence. Demonstrates an ability to plan, organize, coordinate, prioritize, balance workload and follow through to achieve institutional and individual goals and objectives; Demonstrates use of good judgments and sound decision-making (common sense, intuition, data collection, analytical skills, impact evaluation, and communications) to systematically address problems, define alternate solutions, negotiate and facilitate implementation of solutions; Balances need for consensus and involvement with need for decisiveness and action. Accountability: Develops and implements internal policies and procedures, which support the section but are aligned with hospital Personnel Policies and Administrative Policies; Identifies to Director whether section has appropriate staff, facilities, space, and other resources needed to perform efficiently; Establishes performance standards with which to measure effectiveness and efficiency of services; Ensures compliance with regulations governing hospitals and the rules of accrediting bodies by continually monitoring the organization's service delivery system and by initiating changes as required; Manages customer relationships and communicates their needs and expectations clearly to staff. Accountable for providing a good system for resolving problems and learning from them. Must be committed to working with both internal and external customers in fulfilling the mission of the department and the institution;E nsures that laboratory procedures are accurate and tested in an efficient manner, verifies results according to the department protocol as evidenced by audit; Ensures semi-annual self and regular CAP inspections are conducted and any deficiencies noted are fixed in a timely manner for Hematology/Coagulation team.

Planning & Quality
Competency: In collaboration with the Director, develops through an integration of ideas of those involved, an organized tactical plan to achieve both short and long term objectives for the section; Communicates plan to obtain commitment by the responsible individuals.
Accountability: Develops, maintains and monitors QA/QC/PM processes to assure quality outcomes; Establishes goals for subordinates that support Departmental goals; Establishes measurement tools to track progress towards personal and subordinates' goals; Ensures adequate reagents/supplies; Ensures that functional verification, preventative maintenance and trouble-shooting on all equipment are conducted to ensure reliable results, and maintains proper documentation of equipment; Works closely with the inventory clerk to insure that supplies are readily available and par levels are set appropriately for varying test volumes.

Fiscal Management
Competency: Demonstrates a personal accountability for financial results through mindful execution of section's budget; Engages staff in efforts to contain costs and improve the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of services. Understands the basics of health care financial management.
Accountability: Assists in establishing section's budget targets, holds self and other individuals accountable for compliance with annual budget plan; Identifies program or service growth opportunities and methodologies to enhance revenues.

Job specific Accountabilities: Ensures that laboratory procedures are accurate and tested in an efficient manner, verifies results according to the department protocol as evidenced by audit; Ensures that functional verification, preventative maintenance and trouble-shooting on all equipment are conducted to ensure reliable results, and maintains proper documentation of equipment; Serves as technical resource to physicians and staff; Directs resolution of technical issues related to results and/or instruments; Ensures adequate reagents/supplies; Coordinates with other Supervisors for employees work schedule and is responsible for acting as a group leader; Develops, maintains and monitors QA/QC/PM processes to assure quality outcomes; Assists in training personnel in departmental procedures, policy and safety, and follows their progress assuring annual competencies are completed; Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
