Neurodiagnostic Technician
Job Description
Summary:
The Neurodiagnostic Technician performs basic neurodiagnostic testing utilizing specialized equipment to assist the physician in the evaluation of patients with various neurological disorders; possesses knowledge of standards of practice as defined by the American Society of Electroneurodiagnostic Technologists; possesses the appropriate knowledge level of diseases to correlate patient history and clinical symptoms to determine appropriate maneuvers to be performed during testing.
Responsibilities:
Provides a safe recording environment for the patient at all times by exhibiting a core knowledge to include establishing rapport with the patient and patient’s family, evaluating the patient per standards, and preparing a basic data sheet and ensuring accurate electrode placement.
Maintains and possess appropriate knowledge of instrumentation to obtain quality EEG’s by documenting the working condition of the digital EEG instrument and possessing knowledge of how waveforms are affected by settings and external factors applying principles to correct interference.
Obtains standard and extended EEG’s on patients of all age groups per physician order following national standards of practice by insuring all components of a standard EEG are included in the recording, customizing the recording procedure based on evaluating the reason for referral, history and observed waveforms and differentiating artifact from cerebral waveforms and troubleshoots appropriately.
Performs specialized tests and understands the criteria for electrocerebral inactivity and assists with EMG, NCV and other tests as appropriate.
Maintains the EEG database system on a daily basis.
Takes call for emergency testing with a 20-minute response time.
Required:
High School Diploma
BLS
Certification: Health/Medicine - ABRE-T
Work Schedule: 8-hours, Days, Monday through Friday
